Behind The Brand: Glamour Doll Eyes

WE SPOKE WITH VANESSA, THE BRAINS BEHIND GLAMOUR DOLL EYES ABOUT HER INSPIRATIONS, BEST SELLERS, AND PENGUINS WITH TACOS.

GDE started out of boredom honestly. I got really into beauty gurus and their videos and thought it would be something fun to do. I did a lot of research, told my husband my idea and he backed me. It’s all downhill (in the best way possible) from there. The name came from an ad that I wanted to do. Sort of like an introduction to my brand. I wanted a girl with porcelain skin, sort of doll face like so that is how we got Glamour Doll and then I added Eyes which is short for Eye Shadow, but we just call it Glamour Doll Eyes. We officially launched the website in January of 2009 but I call November 21st 2008 the official birthday because that is when I picked the name and started the online journey of it.

What is your brand best known for?

In the beginning I think we were known a lot for our bright shadows but now that other brands have come along and make much better brights than we do, I would say we’re more known for sparkle. Our biggest selling collection ever was the Circus Collection which was in collaboration with a big guru at the time. We are also known for giving back, donating to charity and just spreading the love.

glitters.JPGWhat inspires you?

I usually base the products off of things I am feeling at the moment, song lyrics, books I’ve read, favourite movies and shows. It really depends on the mood I am in to figure out what I can pull inspiration from. My customers are also a huge inspiration.

What are your 3 favourite products that you’ve created, and why?

Glitter Fix because it was something I made from scratch. Developing something like that is way different than making an eye shadow and I was really excited that I could branch out and do that. I really love making limited edition items. I can make LE all day but when it comes to permanent stuff, I am really lost. Lastly, while it is more specific, I am going to say Pistol Pistol eye shadow because it’s a lot of my customers favorite and I really feed off their excitement.

Glitter Fix, for sure, Fiji Mermaid and Skeletina (these aren’t 100% accurate, they’re just the ones the customers ask for the most).

Favourite part of your job?

I get to stay at home with my dog. I get to be my own boss and be creative. I can make women and men feel amazing about themselves.

How do you want you/your brand to be remembered?

I want people to remember that we/I did my best to give back.

And now, the fun bits…

If you were an animated character, who would you be and why?

Dory from Finding Nemo/Finding Dory because she is a little forgetful but she is really loyal.

GDE - Supernova - bowsandcurtseyscomYou’re a new addition to the crayon box. What colour would you be and why?

Purple with green and copper shift because I love purple, green and copper on my brown eyes.

A penguin walks through the door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?

He says “Hola, want a taco?” because penguins with tacos would be the bomb!
