We had a chat with Adrianna of Delush Polish about pushing the boundaries, and not being afraid to get your hands
Tell us about your brand’s backstory
It all began back in 2012 with a whirlwind trip back home to London for the Christmas holidays. Always having seen nail polish as an accessory that accents and puts the finishing touch on my overall look, I often found myself frustrated with the limited shades and finishes that were on the market. That’s when I asked myself the question that started it all, what if I made my own?
Armed with countless hours of research from my trip, I was so motivated with the idea of this new venture that I began sketching logo ideas on my flight back to Boston. Needless to say it was the most productive 7 hours of flying I’ve ever had! Touching down with an initial business plan, brand mission, logo and idea for my debut collection, Delush Polish was born.
What is your brand best known for?
Delush Polish is known for creating shades that truly transcend the boundaries of traditional nail polish standards. Since launching, we’ve become known for our signature glitter jelly and crelly polishes that feature larger sized holographic circle glitters. We’re a brand that upholds the highest standard when it comes to sourcing quality, vegan friendly ingredients and always expanding our line to include new finishes, more recently the inclusion of magnetics and thermals.
What inspires you?
I strive to create unique shades with every collection and always want to challenge myself to do something fresh and unexpected. Inspiration really does strike at any time, being a graphic designer by trade I’ve always been in tune with my creative side and tend to look at the world from a different perspective. I’d say a great deal of our collections are influenced by personal connections, whether that’s to a place, television show or my experiences.
What are your 3 favourite polishes that you’ve created, and why?
This is really like being asked to pick your favorite child, so shhh don’t tell the others 😉 Four Years of Grapeness is one of my personal favorites, it’s a shade that is very near and dear to me as it marked our 4th year anniversary. I love how the neon glitters burst through the grape jelly base, it’s like having a celebration on your nails! I also love a good versatile red, so it’s no surprise that I did a happy dance when I came up with Poisoned Vine, it’s the perfect vampy red for any season, love at first coat for me on this one. Lastly now this was a tough one, I have to go with A Night in the Asylum which was inspired by American Horror Story, it’s an older shade that just feels timeless whenever I wear it and it always sparks a conversation no matter where I go!
What are your 3 best sellers?
These change yearly but currently, Four Years of Grapeness, Any Fin is Possible and our recent Polish Pick Up shade that became highly coveted, Zombie Hunter.
Favourite part of your job?
There are so many facets of running Delush Polish that I love but, my most favorite thing has to be when I’m in the studio with my music on, surrounded by glitter and pigments and being able to channel my creative energy. For my day job, I’m a graphic designer who spends the entire day in front of a computer screen so there is nothing quite like getting your hands dirty (or glittery I should say) and being able to work on something that is tangible and makes such an impact on our customer’s lives. I’m always humbled by the fact that so many of our customers choose us to be their first foray into the indie world or that it’s the only brand they use to polish their little one’s nails with, all of this means the world to me.
How do you want you/your brand to be remembered?
My hope is that people remember us as a brand who wasn’t afraid to push the boundaries to create shades that truly empower our customers to live their lives boldly and through color.
And now, the fun bits…
If your life was a movie title, what would it be?
I think it would have to be… Girl on Fire! I’ve always been known to give my all to anything I do, no challenge is too big or small and I’m proud to say I’ve accomplished quite a bit so far but I’m no where near finished.
You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What colour would you be and why?
I’d have to go with rainbow! Wait, is that cheating?
What would I find in your refrigerator right now?
Well this just makes me hungry thinking about it 😉 As a busy working mum, I always have plain greek yogurt and some kind of fruit in my fridge so I can whip up a mean yogurt bowl in a few minutes, this was actually my breakfast this morning!
