WE CAUGHT UP WITH BARBRA, CREATIVE GENIUS BEHIND ILNP, TO WALK US THROUGH ILNP’S HISTORY AND FUTURE GOALS.
Tell us about your brand’s backstory
I began “frankening” polish as a hobby sometime in 2012 and found myself constantly looking at photos of nail art and manicures online. I created a Facebook page called “I Love Nail Polish” to share some of the beautiful creations I came across.
While curating photos I began coming across different tutorials and conversations about making your own nail polish. This led to me buying some clear suspension base and a handful of different glitters, “just for fun,” to see what I could do.
At one point, my boyfriend Jason (now CEO at ILNP) suggested I put a couple of my glitter polishes on Etsy to see if people following the I Love Nail Polish page would like them.
We didn’t have a brand or anything at this point, I just listed the polishes under my personal account.
It was such a great feeling – people were really buying the nail polishes that I made! They were asking for customs and some were even buying more than 1 of the same item. Wow!
This is a huge deal to me, I never expected the rush of inspiration and excitement that it gave.
We thought about creating a brand and tossed around ideas for a name for at least a week until we realized we already had a name, and a perfect place to continue to get exposure!
We then adopted the name “I Love Nail Polish” for our brand for a few years. We later shortened it to the acronym “ILNP” as we continued to work on refining our brand.
What is your brand best known for?
Hopefully everything, from our products to our customer support. We really try to give 100% wherever we can and leave a positive impression at every stage of the customer experience.
What inspires you?
The success of larger, more established brands because of what they’ve done to grow where they are.
Estee Lauder for example, has an amazing story and their history is incredibly inspiring.
We have big dreams and we’re doing our best to make sure that we’re taking the right steps to grow into something truly great.
What are your 3 favourite products that you’ve created, and why?
Juliette – It just came out way better than I expected. It’s the perfect combination of rose gold and sparkle!
Ava – I’d always imagined a polish like Ava in my head but I could never get it just right. Once I did, it became an instant favorite. I still smile at how well the depth and subtle gold sparkle all came together.
Sweater Weather – To me, this is one of the most perfect Fall / Winter polishes that I’ve ever made. Even to this day, the richness, balance, sparkle, and balance will never get old.
What are your 3 best sellers?
This can fluctuate depending on the season and what we’ve recently released but, a few of our timeless classics are Black Orchid, Juliette, and Birefringence.
Favourite part of your job?
Definitely putting the final touches on a polish. There’s nothing like working on something for ages and finally getting exactly what you’ve been seeing in your head into the bottle.
How do you want you/your brand to be remembered?
I’d like ILNP to be remembered as a fun and innovative brand that played a role in shaping the standards and expectations consumers have for their nails.

“Just for the night!” Local woman banned from popular pet store after repeated attempts to “borrow” cats while in disguise.
What was your dream job growing up?
As a child, I wanted to have a donut shop. Once I grew out of that, I knew I wanted to do something involving fashion.
