JANE FROM LIFE’S ENTROPY TAKES US ON A TOUR OF WHERE BEAUTY MEETS SCIENCE…
Tell us about your brand’s backstory
I ran a popular makeup blog called Life’s Entropy throughout college which led to learning about cosmetic chemistry, experimenting with various ingredients, and creating new formulas.
I found that a lot of mainstream cosmetics had fillers or “hyped up” claims and ingredients that detracted from product performance and was mainly for advertising. This was back in 2014 when most brands were severely lagging behind the current makeup trends and lacked in variety, performance, and pigmentation.
At the same time, I always wanted to combine my two passions in life – science and beauty. There were no other brands at the time that filled that niche and Life’s Entropy became the first science-themed cosmetics line.
What is your brand best known for?
Lip Theories, Foundation Elixirs, and Particle Contour Sticks – all products we first launched with!
What inspires you?
Innovation, science, safety, and ethics. I try to create unique products that fill a void in the cosmetics industry that are guided by cosmetic chemistry, regulated by a high level of quality control, and composed of ethically sourced ingredients.
What are your 3 favourite products that you’ve created, and why?
The limited edition Cosmos lipstick in Milky Way, Symmetry matte theory, and Catalyst lip theory – I love lip products and these three are my absolute favourite colors!
What are your 3 best sellers?
White Foundation elixir, Neutrino Particle Contour Stick, and Catalyst lip theory
Favourite part of your job?
I love creating new products and formulas. I also love using our three-roll mill!
How do you want you/your brand to be remembered?
I want people to know that science is fun, especially when combined with makeup! I’ve had hundreds of people tell me about how they’ve worn our products to conferences, labs, classes, etc. and that lights up my day. I’ve also hosted several hands-on classes teaching young kids how to create cosmetics from scratch and they LOVE it!
AND NOW, THE FUN BITS…
If you were written about in the newspaper, what would the headline say?
Woman found stuck in a vat of lipstick for 3 days.
What was your dream job growing up?
It was always either an artist or a scientist – now I get to be both!
If you could time travel, would you go to the past or future?
The future so we can solve the problems of the future by solving them today…but then I guess I can also solve today’s problems by going to the past…whoops, I guess either one works fine for me.
