WE CHATTED TO ROSS FROM WILD HYBRID PERFUMES ABOUT SOME OF THE CHALLENGES FACING A SMALL, HANDCRAFTED PERFUMERY…
What have been some of the challenges you’ve faced since the decision to start your brand?
Getting aromatics shipped to this part of the world can be difficult. Shipping restrictions for the more volatile oils and the expense of shipping are major hurdles.
What has been your favourite bit about creating and running Wild Hybrid
I love that my customers love my creations. I get a real kick out of reading reviews.
Is there a particular perfume that became more popular than you’d ever expected?
Countess di Castiglione. I really didn’t think it would be as popular as it is.
What’s something that you think would surprise most people to know about the company?
It’s a one-man entity. Getting things done when I have a full time job and spend 6 days a week at the gym can be challenging but it feels great getting packages out.
Out of the perfumes you’ve created since we caught up with you last, which have excited you the most to make?
The White Lady for Femme Fatale. It is stunning (IMHO). The play of the sugar note with amber, a touch of blackberry and the rosemary flower is really cool. I love the soft rosemary flower but I doubt I will be able to get any more of that particular oil.
Has there been a particular scent you’ve smelt that you’ve found especially difficult to replicate into a perfume?
OK. I’m taking this into a slightly different territory. I really struggle with gourmands. It’s something I want to develop more for my customers and will be working in this year.
If you could recommend 3 perfumes to someone who has never tried Wild Hybrid, which would you choose and why?
As always, personal preferences play a part but if I was to suggest three I would go for those more popular and less challenging to the norm. Demon Girl (sweet bubble gum and patchouli), Countess di Castiglione (floral, honey and wine) and Butterfly Queen (white musk, rich tropical florals and sandalwood)
AND NOW, THE FUN BITS…
What would I find in your refrigerator right now?
Lots of water, veges, chicken and steak, eggs and an assortment of sauces and pickles. I’m on a very specific nutrition plan
Would you rather fight one horse-size duck, or 100 duck-size horses?
I’m a very linear person so one horse-sized duck, please. Fighting on multiple fronts would not go well.
What is your favourite thing to spend money on?
Clothes. Seriously, I don’t need any more t-shirts.
Code expires 11.59PM AEST Wednesday July 10th 2019.
